Today was day 1 of training. My goal was to swim 10 km; 7-8km in the morning and 2-3km at night. It was also day 1 of the Victoria Masters Swim Camp, which made things a lot easier for me as it’s easier for me to swim with others for the time being in order that I remain committed.
The Vic masters workout started at 7:30 am and was a full 3km. The main set was 3 x 5 x 100 with a goal of descending each of the sets. I manage to drop 5 seconds between set 1 and 3. Earlier in the season I promised myself that I would work harder at moving faster by kicking fast while I swim – not something distance swimmers typically do. I used this technique to drop my times. It worked and I didn’t die!
I remained after the Vic workout for a solo set of 6 easy 500s. My back and hips were giving me a bit of a rough time. Knowing it’s going to be a long week I pooped out promising myself I would swim the remaining 4km in the evening.
My evening workout started with a 500 w/u and 2 x 5 x 100 on pace. The training camp started after my 1.5km solo swim and was 2.6km. The sets were either breastroke or sprint. I enjoyed both!
Total kilometeradge: 10. Day 1 mission accomplished.
